To compare the delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) indexes acquired with different gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs), with emphasis on the difference in electrical charge, and to evaluate the feasibility of the use of GBCAs other than gadopentetate dimeglumine with a double negative charge (Gd-DTPA 2−) as alternatives at dGEMRIC.
In the knees with radiographic OA, the dGEMRIC index at baseline was lower than that in the knees without radiographic OA (P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study support the dGEMRIC index as a clinically relevant measure of cartilage integrity and suggest that a low index may be predictive of the development of knee OA.
For example, adherence to an exercise regimen was shown to increase the dGEMRIC Index [48, 59, 60]. Similarly, in obese subjects, quadriceps strength was shown to correlate positively with dGEMRIC , as did weight loss . 2018-04-01 · The dGEMRIC index was calculated as the mean T 1Gd of all voxels in each of the nine ROIs. An intraobserver analysis for T1 analysis was made in 10 randomly selected SCFE hips. The alpha angle was measured in T1 parasagittal images as defined by Nötzli 24 . 2021-03-19 · The lowest mean femoral dGEMRIC index (403 ± 116 ms) (Appendix Table A2) was located at the zone of maximal anterior femoral impingement (3 o’clock) . The 5 hips with intraoperative cartilage flaps anterosuperiorly had a mean acetabular dGEMRIC index of 407 ± 118 ms at 1 o’clock, of 396 ± 123 ms at 2 o’clock, and of 376 ± 120 ms at 3 o’clock.

In the current dGEMRIC protocol, Gd-DTPA 2− is administered per kilogram body weight with the assumption that the distribution volume of the contrast agent is proportional to body weight. We found that the dGEMRIC index decreased to a substantially higher degree in operatively treated patients with FAI compared with nonoperative management at 1-year followup. The baseline dGEMRIC index correlated with the improvement in the WOMAC score 1 year postoperatively. differences in the dGEMRIC index across a region were used to predict difference in stiffness. Objective To determine the association between changes in the delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) index over 2 years as a measure of cartilage proteoglycan concentration, with changes in cartilage thickness in the medial tibiofemoral compartment of knees in middle-aged women. Methods One hundred and forty-eight women (one knee for each subject) aged ≥40 years were included
Similar to the knee [4, 34], dGEMRIC is a promising tool to quantify cartilage healing or degeneration before and after joint-preserving hip sur-gery and to monitor the natural course of hip diseases. Recently, the short-term effects of periacetabular osteot- using T1(Gd) as the dGEMRIC Index as a measure of Gd-DTPA2-distribution may be less suitable at 3T than 1.5T.
low dGEMRIC index in the repair tissue two years postoperatively indicated fibrocartilage of low quality. A negative correlation between the dGEMRIC index and future OA suggested that the quality of the surrounding cartilage influences the outcome after cartilage repair surgery.
The dGEMRIC index is highly correlated to mechanical stiffness. A generalized relationship was found to provide good correspondence across sources and regions. Use of the dGEMRIC index as a predictive measure of stiffness is possible, depending on the application's acceptable error. Copyright (c) 2007 Orthopaedic Research Society. PMID: 17427215 2006-11-01 · The mean T1 (Gd) within a clinically relevant region of articular cartilage is usually referred to as the dGEMRIC Index 6.
A recent study indicated that low dGEMRIC may predict future radiographic knee OA.43 The dGEMRIC index has been shown to be low in individuals with moderate to severe radiographic knee OA,15 after cruciate ligament injury44 45 and in diseased knee compartments on arthroscopy.46 In addition, a range of dGEMRIC values has been observed in radiographically comparable compartments demonstrating
Gd-DTPA2 levels vs body mass index (BMI), and (2) dGEMRIC vs BMI after correcting for the doseeBMI effect. Method: (1) Plasma Gd-DTPA2 levels were analyzed at 3e90 min after IV injection per body weight in 24 individuals with BMI between 21.5 and 46.5. (2) dGEMRIC was compared with BMI in 19 asymptomatic volunteers and 23 with osteoarthritis (OA). The dGEMRIC index in the cartilage adjacent to the repair tissue correlated negatively with radiographic osteophyte score, r = –0.75 (p = 0.03). Interpretation — A traumatic cartilage injury is associated with a high prevalence of OA after 17 years.

baseline dGEMRIC indices for the entire joint (R = 0.788, p\0.001). Among those treated nonoperatively, no cor-relation between baseline dGEMRIC indices and change in PROMs was found. In the posterosuperior quadrant, the dGEMRIC index was higher for patients with intact carti-lage compared with hips with chondral lesions A low dGEMRIC index has been associated with failure of the Bernese periacetabular osteot-omy in adult patients with DDH12, presumably because it can differentiate the cases where the OA disease process has advanced too far from those where the cartilage composition is relatively normal. Furthermore, dGEMRIC is sensitive enough to show dif- dGEMRIC indices similar to those from their matched controls and in the normal range for hip cartilage. In all but one of the eight subjects the anterior dGEMRIC index was lower than that in the posterior region.
Patient-reported outcome tools used included the modified Harris hip score (mHHS), the Nonarthritic Hip Score (NAHS), the Hip Outcome Score Activities of Daily Living (HOS-ADL), and the Hip Outcome Score Sport-Specific Subscale (HOS-SSS) as well as a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and a patient satisfaction score. The dGEMRIC index was 20–30 % lower in the patients with early OA compared to healthy volunteers (P < 0.003) at all time points, with largest difference at the earlier time points due to faster wash-in of the contrast in the OA cartilage.

The dGEMRIC index of each hip was calculated as the mean T 1Gd of its ROI, excluding voxels with T 1Gd >1300 ms, according to standard protocol at our institution. dGEMRIC indices were then
The patients were divided into two groups on the basis of their dGEMRIC index. This division was established by first calculating the mean and SD of the dGEMRIC indices of all of the study cohort patients.

2013-07-01 2018-04-01 ized, longitudinal study51 that compared the dGEMRIC index of patients with FAI undergoing surgery with those treated nonoperatively. The following inclusion criteria were used: the presence of hip pain; radiographic signs of skeletal maturity; AP radiographs; and the availability of both CT and MRI with dGEMRIC of the same hip joint.
